A Promising Career reflects how I see myself within my mother, pictured side by side rising from a lotus pond, to illustrate rebirth. The piece carries both liberation and tension in my passion to pursue a career in art, alongside my mother’s quiet uncertainty about its security. Referencing the apsara, a familiar figure in many Cambodian households, the work represents generational support. This painting is also a gift to my mother, in her wish to be portrayed as an apsara and expressing my hope that she continues to support me in my chosen career path.
