James Supa Medrano - No Fear
No Fear, 2025
12" x 16"
Acrylic on Wood Panel
"This piece explores the delicate balance between external chaos and internal purpose - a visual reminder to remain anchored to what ignites our passion and keeps us grounded amid uncertainty. The background of flames represents the turmoil of the world: natural disasters, war, civil unrest - forces that feel overwhelming, unpredictable, and ever-present. Despite this chaotic backdrop, the bold iconic yellow smiley face sits prominently in the foreground. It symbolizes myself as both artist and individual - choosing optimism, resilience, and forward momentum even as the world burn around me. Overlaying the smiley are the unmistakable “NO FEAR” eyes, borrowed from the cultural symbol of defiance and boldness. They represent my refusal to create from a place of fear or compromise - an assertion to pursue work that resonates authentically, regardless of external judgment or challenge. Above it all sits a vibrant green burst with a dollar sign, styled to echo commercial advertisements. This element reflects the intersection of passion and livelihood - a nod to the reality of transforming creative energy into tangible income, without diluting artistic integrity. Together these symbols create a layered narrative about staying connected to what fuels us - no matter how unpredictable the world becomes."
