This painting was painted from observation and is based on cardboard maquettes of three hands, two of which are based on the outline of the hands from Peter Paul Rubens's "Samson and Delilah." I love the shape and how demonic they look when you can just see the outline. Hands are a new motif in my work. I make studies painted from direct observation to explore light and color and to introduce new forms and themes to my work.
